Explaining the Science Behind the Solution

RAFiott collaborated with the APACHE project to write, storyboard, and design a visually compelling explanation video that unpacks the complex science behind its innovative air-quality barriers. The video brings clarity to APACHE’s mission: reducing urban air pollution using a Nature-Based Solution tailored for pedestrian zones.

APACHE is a University of Malta initiative that focuses on designing air pollution barriers made from vegetation and solid materials. These structures aim to shield pedestrians—particularly children and vulnerable communities—from the harmful effects of vehicle emissions at ground level. The project integrates cutting-edge simulation technology, wind tunnel testing, and physical prototyping to shape its research-driven solution.

Visual Storytelling with Purpose

RAFiott developed the full video script and visual direction for the APACHE explanation video, breaking down the project’s technical processes into a clear and engaging narrative. From high-level concepts to tangible outcomes, every scene was crafted to educate and inspire.

The video script is structured into three parts:

  • Problem & Context: Urban air pollution and how it affects pedestrians.
  • Research & Methods: Simulation tools, wind tunnel testing, and 3D printing used to refine the barrier design.
  • Solutions & Outcomes: Final prototype and the promise of Nature-Based Solutions in future city planning.

Why This Matters

The APACHE project video distills years of environmental research into an accessible format that can reach a broader audience, including stakeholders, community members, and potential partners. By translating academic insight into a compelling visual story, RAFiott helped the project communicate its impact with clarity and confidence.

This approach is ideal for science-based projects looking to raise awareness, secure funding, or drive policy conversations.
