Designed by Gilbert Baker, the rainbow flag has been a symbol of the queer community since the 1970s, particularly gaining prominence after the assassination of Harvey Milk. The modern six-colour Pride flag, although simplified from its original version, retains the deep meanings of its colours, with orange symbolising healing.
