RAFiott collaborated with APACHE, a University of Malta initiative, to craft its brand identity and develop social media assets that effectively communicate the project’s mission. APACHE focuses on creating innovative air pollution barriers using a combination of vegetation and solid materials. These barriers, known as Nature-Based Solutions, are designed to improve urban air quality by redirecting pollutants away from pedestrians and residents, with particular emphasis on protecting children and adults. The project integrates advanced computer modelling, wind tunnel experiments, and community feedback to optimise its designs.

RAFiott’s first objective was to design a logo that would excel across various sizes while encapsulating the project’s scientific foundation. After exploring several concepts through detailed sketches, the chosen design incorporated references to the Penrose triangle and the alchemical symbol for air. The colour palette, featuring a spectrum of blues, reflects the theme of “air” and functions seamlessly on both light and dark backgrounds.

To further enhance the brand, RAFiott customised a free font, transforming it into a unique typographic solution. The airy, floating elements of the typography, combined with a subtle sci-fi aesthetic, align perfectly with APACHE’s innovative and scientific ethos. This approach also kept branding costs low, making it a sustainable solution for the project’s needs.
