The Qassata, a cherished Maltese snack that falls somewhere between a pie and a dumpling, is traditionally filled with ricotta, though other variations exist. Inspired by childhood memories of fresh, homemade qassatat lovingly prepared by the artist’s nanna, this artwork is part of RAFiott’s L-Ewwel Ma Tiekol L-Għajn Collection.

The L-Ewwel Ma Tiekol L-Għajn Collection reimagines traditional Maltese cuisine through a surreal lens, inspired by the phrase “the first thing to eat is the eye.” This saying, deeply rooted in Maltese culture, highlights the importance of visual appeal and first impressions. In this series, RAFiott presents four unique designs, each drawn in a distinctive charcoal style and inspired by Malta’s most beloved savoury snacks.

A recurring eye motif runs through the collection, adding a playful, literal twist to the expression and symbolising RAFiott’s role as a cultural observer. Each artwork is available as an individual piece or as part of a geometric pattern, ideal for bringing a slice of Maltese heritage into any space.
