Apache | Logo Design
RAFiott collaborated with APACHE, a University of Malta initiative, to create a distinctive logo and brand identity. The project also included social media assets that clearly communicate APACHE’s mission: improving urban air quality through innovative nature-based solutions.
APACHE focuses on designing air pollution barriers made from a combination of vegetation and solid materials. These structures help redirect pollutants away from pedestrians, with a strong focus on protecting children and vulnerable residents. The project brings together computer modelling, wind tunnel testing, and community input to shape and improve its designs.
RAFiott’s first objective was to create a logo that would perform well at all sizes while capturing the project’s scientific foundation. After exploring several concepts, the final design featured elements inspired by the Penrose triangle and the alchemical symbol for air. A gradient of blues was chosen to reflect the theme of air and ensure strong contrast on both light and dark backgrounds.
To enhance the identity, RAFiott also customised a free font into a unique typographic solution. Its floating and airy appearance, paired with a subtle futuristic feel, matched APACHE’s innovative and research-driven character. This approach also helped keep branding costs low, making it a practical and effective choice.
