Restless nights are no rarity for the artist; they’ve become a recurring theme in his work. “Piece of Mind” was originally sketched in 2017/2018, during the early stages of a major life shift. Having grown up surrounded by the quiet fields of Dingli, RAFiott now found himself in the bustling centre of Malta. Urban Malta’s lack of green spaces — replaced by a sprawling concrete landscape shaped by years of short-sighted development — left him feeling confined and disconnected.

Living on a busy road in an old, dusty house, RAFiott felt estranged from nature, from home, and from the life he once knew. “Piece of Mind” captures this sense of detachment as a self-portrait, with empty eyes representing his exhaustion and disassociation. The parts of his head usually covered by hair are absent, revealing his longing for nature. This period also marked the beginning of his own garden, a small step toward reclaiming his connection to the natural world.

“Piece of Mind” stands out as one of RAFiott’s few artworks created during a stylistic transition, and it’s available in both styles in the RAFiott Shop.
